The Pointe is a good alternative to the high priced OBX courses, and is located off of Hwy. 158 in Powells Point, 5 minutes North of the Wright Memorial Bridge.

It's an interesting layout which moves through a natural area without homes or development along the holes and a break from the beach area's congestion. The course routing is parkland style with tree lined fairways over level land, moderately bunkered with water in play on 15 holes. It's a 1995 Russell Breeden design that from the back tees is 6,343 yards, 70.0/126, course/slope ratings with three shorter tees.

The Pointe is maintained in excellent condition. I have always found playing at The Pointe challenging but fair, the greens and bunkers are always well maintained. The course has an 'openness' about it and it's definitely not a course where you are surrounded by town houses, condos or homes. Here, you can play more of a parkland style course yet right in the Outer Banks. It's close enough to the bridge that you can play it on your way in, way out, or during your stay.

A nice addition to its more challenging sister course, The Carolina Club, The Pointe offers a more forgiving setting. In comparison to its sister club, The Pointe has noticeably wider landing areas and you dont have to shape as many shots to get near the pin for a quick paced, but fair, chance at a birdie. While the greens here are quite a bit quicker, it doesnt require a lot of time to get used to the slick putting surface. If you're looking for a decent practice facility, then stop searching. The Pointe's driving range is pristine and long for those who want to bash away as long as they dare. A very nice practice putting green that shows you exactly what you are going to be up against lies just before the first teebox while an equally nice chipping facility is located beside the driving range. The pro, Cory Schneider, ranks, in my opinion, at the top of the list as far as teachers and players are concerned. I have yet to have a lesson with him that has not profitted me. Also make sure you visit the Keefers bar and grille before or after your round. It hosts a very pleasant atmoshere and some good eats.
