About an 1 1/2 hours northwest of London, England is the Woburn Golf and Country club, a full blown resort with three championship 18 hole courses. The newest, Marquess was designed by Peter Allis, Ross McMurry, and Alex Hay, and measure 6,329 yards, par 72 from the regular tees. The Duke's course was designed by Charles Lawrie in 1976, and has been the site of the British Masters 14 times, and measures 6,554 yards from the regular tees, par 72. The Duchess, the oldest, opening in 1980 was also designed by Lawrie and measures 6,442 yards. There's good golf to be experienced at Woburn, and although the Dukes is a great course, I think it's the weakest of the three, and prefer the Duchess. There's a sound here, unique to Woburn, called Pinnacle on Pine due to the amount of pine trees bordering the courses, some very narrow fairways. All in all a great experience, I would always come back here for a couple of days when in the area.
