Dominick Palumbo designed the course in 1980, it plays to 6,711 yards from the back tees, and a slope of 138, and was recently redesigned by Todd Schroeder. It's located in western Maryland, about three hours from DC and Maryland, 2 hours from Pittsburgh in a 4 season resort, spa, conference center, so unless you're driving by, it's an overnight trip to play the course, but it's worth it. It's in a beautiful setting in the mountains, on Deep Creek Lake, at the base of the Wisp Ski Resort, and the golf course is a classic 18 hole continuous loop design. There is residential development along the course, by it's not a detraction to play. With the recent redesign, they've added 4 new holes, 4-7. The course has a classic feel with its tree lined rolling fairways, shallow bunkers, smallish. The new holes were designed in a way that was able to match the style and character of the original design, they were updated a bit with more current design features, all in all they blend in great. The greens are fast with good undulations, and at one hole, the 10th green sits on a site that once housed a barn that was rumored to be haunted. Other recreational amenities at Wisp Resort are skiing, boarding, fly fishing, boating, tennis, fitness, spa, hiking, mountain coaster, kayaking, and more.
