Dominick Palumbo designed Wisp in 1980, it plays to 6,711 yards from the back tees, and a slope of 138, recently redesigned by Todd Schroeder. It's located in western Maryland, about three hours from DC and Maryland, 2 hours from Pittsburgh in a 4 season resort, spa, conference center.
It's in a beautiful setting in the mountains, on Deep Creek Lake, at the base of the Wisp Ski Resort, and the golf course is a classic 18 hole continuous loop design. There is residential development along the course, by it's not a detraction. The course has a classic feel with its tree lined rolling fairways, shallow bunkers, and smallish greens. The greens are fast with good undulation, and at one hole, the 10th green sits on a site that once housed a barn that was rumored to be haunted.
