Designed by Michael Hurdzan and Dana Fry in 2006, the course is 6900 yards, 135 slope from the granite tees, with three shorter and one longer sets of tees. The course is in a beautiful tract of land in the Dells which used to be a quarry. The routing is along the ridge lines and mounds of the area, and meanders through the heavily forested rolling land along a stream on property surrounding the former quarry. It's a very challenging and well conditioned course, where course management and strategy are the key over distance. There's good use of the elevation change to the land here and you end up with a course with a lot of different character to the holes. Greens are good sized, with undulating and moderately fast. The course was in great shape this past summer, and rates are in line with other similar courses in the area.

The course has good sized fairways that offer a number of options off each tee. There were even some fairway bunkers in the middle of the fairway in play off the tee. I really liked the greens, they had significant internal movement which made being on the right portion essential. It is very difficult with forest areas, long fescues, and other hazards. The bunkers are similar to those at Erin Hills, and offer awkward stances and difficult recoveries. The greens have significant slopes, ridges, levels, and fall-offs which makes putting a lot of fun, but also very difficult. The course is not walkable. The tees and greens are close, but the hills would kill you. The staff does a good job suggesting people play the 6400 tees and most do, but pace can be a problem. My first visit was north of 5:15!

Wiild Rock has become my favorite golf course in the Dells, will drive up from Madison every weekend to play here. Fair golf course off the tee, but the greens are the main challenge for my game. Enjoyable, in excellent condition for such a new course, and reasonable greens fees, should be on your list if you're coming to the Dells.

Look out for the beverage cart girl. My mother-in-law was hit head on when the beverage cart was being driven the wrong way around a blind curve. She was hit head on and ejected from the cart after hitting the steering wheel. She was assessed by a lifeguard and sent on her way with little more than a comped 13 holes of golf. Very poor customer service from such a highly regarded golf resort!
