Westchase is northwest of the Tampa Bay International airport, about a 15 minute drive, and is located in the Westchase master planned community. The course was designed by Lloyd Clifton in 1992 and is 6700 yards from the black tees 131 slope. It's a well designed, interesting layout with 50+ bunkers and water or wetlands on 11 holes. The greens are large with a good deal of break, and speed. Clifton is a well known Florida architect and usually puts together a solid course design, and this is one of his better layouts. Usually in OK shape, one of the best daily fee courses in the Tampa area.

Westchase Golf Club has a reputation in Tampa Bay as one of the nicest in the area. So I expected the course to be in good shape and I wasn’t disappointed. Except for one or two tee areas the boxes were in great shape. Fairways and greens were nicely mowed, firm and in overall good condition throughout. The course is average length using three sets of tees, 6700 yards from the blues, just over 6200 from the whites and 5200 yards from the red tees. We got around quickly in just over 3 hours on the Monday we played. The course is beautiful as it winds you through nature sanctuaries and Westchase neighborhoods. Except for a couple of holes, houses are not really a factor during play; however, there are substantial wetlands that do come into play on a number of holes. Of course Westchase’s good reputation comes with a price – $59 on weekend mornings. But if you check their rates, there are deals to be had for afternoon play. We played on Monday after 2pm and spent $31 for the round which is a bargain for the course conditions and overall amenities offered. Amenities included carts that were new and in good shape but the GPS system costs $5.00 extra. The practice areas include an area for chipping and bunker practice by the driving range which hits into water using aqua balls. There is a large putting green with several hole locations by the clubhouse which seemed to roll true to the greens on the course. Visit BunkerTalk!

The starter was great. Came by during play and thanked us for maintaining pace of play, complemented the women in the group for their playing ability and at the end expressed thanks for pace of play and thanked us for playing there. Course was great, greens were quick. A lot of course management decisions in a round here - would play this one near the end of a week's trip rather than the start.
