The course was designed by Sir Guy Campbell, Major C.K.Hutchison and Colonel S.V.Hotchkin and completed in 1930. It's a heathland course occupying an oasis of sand, heather and pine in the middle of the England countryside land, 1 hour south of London, which is predominantly clay and marsh. It's one of the more peaceful settings in golf, and there's are a number of very good holes here. It plays to 6,220 yards, par 68. There are no par fives, but seven par fours greater than 400 yards, and two par threes over 200 yards, you will need all your shots. Most of the fairways on the par fours bend one way or another. Since this is a heath course and that the trees frame the holes more than encroach, you need to be able to move the ball if you are to score well here. A delight to play and experience.
