Water Gap is on the Delaware Water Gap, off I-80 just east of Stroudsburg. It's a classic hilly parkland style of course built in the 1920's that hasn't changed much. It once hosted a professional tournament that attracted the likes of Walter Hagan, and in fact on one of his miscues on a short little par three 4th, the hole was forever named for him. It's very short, at 6124 yards from the blue tees, 65.5 course rating, and a 110 slope, but you won't overpower it the first time you play. It was designed by A.W. Tillinghast and Robert White, who designed a number of courses up and down the East coast including Skytop. The layout produces a few blind shots, lots of uneven stances and lies, tree lined fairways, and water on five holes. The greens tend to be on the small side, are tricky and fast, and it's well bunkered. It's a setting in the Poconos, and the rates are very reasonable for the quality and history of the course.
