The course is part of a residential development as most courses are in Phoenix, on the northeast side, north of Fountain Valley in the Verdes community, with two other courses here. The course is on land between the McDowell Mountains and the Verde River with views all around of Granite Mountain, the Mazatzals, McDowell and Superstition Mountains, and Weaver's Needle, and at the moment, that's about all there is to see here until the community is developed. It's a desert style course with forced carries over arroyos and desert scrub to the landing areas off the tee which are good sized. The course has five set of tees, we played the 6782 yard, next from the back and it played to a 136 slope. The greens were the real challenge once you get to them, they're a bit crowned and the shots that don't hold run off into collection areas or bunkers. They're quick with a light amount of break, and at this point in time were in great shape. The course is heavily bunkered around the fairways and greenside for a total of around 70 bunkers, and water in play on only the 18th. The course was designed by Ken Kavanaugh and opened in 2007, and promises to be one of the better courses in the area.

Vista Verde is a ways out from Phoenix, played there 2 weeks ago and the course is in fantastic shape and a great layout. Very generous off the tee with some large fairways, but the greens are punishing. The single we played with compared them to Pinehurst, as many of them are like turtle shells. The condition of the course is great, and the greens were rolling very true and very quick. I think it is very comprable to We-ko-pa's Saguaro course. It's definitely worth the drive and please don't be scared because it's not in "scottsdale". Many of the better courses in the greater phoenix area are NOT in Scottsdale like We-ko-pa, Trilogy, Raven or Longbow.
