Vermont National is in south Burlington, about 10 minutes from the airport. It's a Nicklaus design around and through a housing development on rolling former farmland with views of Lake Champlain. It's home to the University of Vermont, and plays from 7035 yards, down to 5037, and at the moment is a more open links style course until the trees planted grow in. It seems way overpriced for the area, maybe not for a Nicklaus course, but at any rate it's a well conditioned and interesting layout with the housing infringing a bit visually on the back side. The front nine is a little pedestrian, while the back gets into some holes with character, tree lined fairways, elevated tees, and hilly.

Played this summer, nice course, it had a more open and links style of layout on the front, with a traditional, tree lined routing on the back. Mostly open off the tee, but a lot of wetlands, environmental areas, and tall grasses lining the fairways. More elevation change on the back, nice practice facility, and reasonable rates.
