True Blue is probably one of Myrtle Beach's toughest tracks. The course was built upon the site of a working rice and indigo plantations, and is one of the top rated courses in the area, and most expensive. It's across the street from The Caledonia, and its entrance is lined with old live oaks as you drive up to the old south styled clubhouse. The course can play to 7,062 yards, 145 slope from the tips and was designed by Mike Stranz, and plays true to Strantz's tough course reputation. They call the course Heaven and Hell, and with good reason, the course has massive waste areas, scattered mounds, contoured greens, making for a long day if you're off line. The conditioning is fantastic, and the course has huge fairways, and good elevation change throughout, unusual for the area. The fairways are full of contours, mounds, humps, and hallows, and the greens huge as well, some elevated, some with false fronts, but on all of them, if you're on the green, it's not an automatic two putt. The course has a Pine Valley/Pine Barrens feel to it with the fairways and greens surrounded by the vast waste areas. Off the fairways, the rough is high native grasses, and just usually experience an extra stroke to get out and back on the fairway. There's lakes, trees, and the constant wind which is always a factor here, along with the length which make this course tough. It's an interesting layout with short and long holes, straight and dogleged, and was once an indigo plantation, which is used to make dye which is why the name. Bring your 'A' game, it's a love or hate experience here, personally I've played it a couple of times, and depending on the tee selection, it can be brutal or just a good solid tough course. .

True Blue is a Mike Strantz masterpiece. Blues played 6812 with 72.8/141 slope rating. Easy to understand why this course has won so many awards and accolades. A fantastic track and the most challenging of the trip. The conditions were terrific. Difficult to the max with the weather this day, but as good as you’re going to find in Myrtle or anywhere. Beautiful from every direction with no homes in sight. Great par 3’s with incredibly dramatic par 5’s, especially the 9th & 10th back to back. Great clubhouse. A must play for anyone even thinking about putting together a Myrtle Beach trip.

Played Blue yesterday, unfortunately they had just punched (small tines) and top dressed the greens. Putts tended to skid quite a bit off the putter head, but once rolling held their line for the most part. Tee boxes fairways and rough were all in good shape. I did not let this effect me as TB is one of my top 5 favorites in MYR.

Wow - this was a fantastic course and one of the best we have played! The first four holes will take your breath away (and possibly several of your golf balls) and you'll want to play them again. And the other 18 are just about as good. Beautiful scenery, greens and fairways in near perfect condition, excellent service, and a unique and fun layout where every hole is different and presents a new set of challenges. Plenty of challenge with huge sand bunkers, forced carries, elevated greens, dog legs, water, and more. No walk in the park, plenty of risk/reward, just be prepared to loose some balls, but you'll enjoy it.

True Blue was brutal today with the wind. More open than Caledonia so the wind takes a greater toll on your game when it’s up. A lot of rough sandy areas and huge waste bunkers throughout. The greens were hard and fast, almost impossible to hold, even with high lofted shots. Don’t be afraid to bump and run here. This is a risk reward track all the way. Deceptive views of greens and strategic placement of bunkers are a great combination of good versus evil. The routing of the holes are terrific because you feel you are playing very different types of holes one after the other. Great finishing hole and one that lets you walk off happy or miserable...either way a reason to head straight for the bar. You are exhausted after playing this beauty.

The Heaven/Hell part of True Blue is correct, one heck of a golf course, the best we played in Myrtle. Despite the summer drought, the course was in great shape, some very difficult holes, and some stellar golf holes, just beautiful.
