Located in County Kerry, the lake district of Ireland, Arnold Palmer designed Tralee in 1984 along with Ed Seay. It's a spectacular location and setting for a golf course, but I would say the physical course is a bit overrated and overpriced. Palmer says he built the front nine, rather flat and featureless, and the Good Lord took care of the back, and I would agree, the back has more character. There are some good holes here, and their share of bad or ill-conceived ones, but the scenery and the environment carry the day. Excellent clubhouse staff and food and beverage, and the course was in wonderful condition. Expensive though, and IMHO not worth it!

Tralee was a surprise to us for such a new course and one designed by an American. The front nine is routed acroos an open field and runs down to the ocean’s edge, with three great holes along the cliffs (the second, third, and eighth) .The back nine is routed through major dunes with some great holes, and is the best part of the course. There's several deep bunkers into some of the slopes which in effect gathers the ball into these pits, a giant collection ball magnet. The closing holes on each nine were somewhat weak, but overall enjoyable with great views throughout.

The back nine is worth waiting for here set on tall dunes land and requires some daring shot making from dune-to-dune, like on the par-3 13th hole that is all carry. The best was "Shipwreck," the seaside par-3 16th that sits next to rocky cliffs, fantastic!

Unfortunately, someone has to come in last place. This is an Arnie track. Nothing really wrong with it but nothing spectacular about it either. Course was nice. Food was average. Caddy was average. (One good thing, this is one of the few courses that lets you use a cart

Next to Waterville, one of the more enjoyable courses you can play in this area. Great layout, extremely challenging with the elements, wind, rain, and cold weather when we played, but still outstanding to play.
