Towa Golf Courses is part of the Cities of Gold Casino, and Buffalo Thunder Resort on the Pueblo of Pojoaque, about 12 miles north of the Santa Fe. Eventually there will be 36 holes, only 27 at the moment, designed by Hale Irwin and William Phillips. For the most part a minimalist design, using the existing land contours, formation, and vegetation as it was, and routed through high desert land, bordered by the piñon trees, surrounded by the Sangre de Cristo and Jemez mountains. Some neat golf holes here, on the Boulder they have the only island green in New Mexico, a par 3; Pinon starts out with a bang a 630 yard par 5, which wakes you up in a hurry. The Butterfly nine is the easiest course of all, for the higher handicapper, so the Boulder and Pinon are the ones to play in my book. Here's the ratings:
Boulder Gold 3,558 36.6 141
Piñon Gold 3,585 36.5 131
Butterfly Gold 3,332 34.5 117
Overall, well maintained, reasonable greens fees even if you're not staying at the resort, and some beautiful holes, especially on the Boulder

Wow! what a golf course, just fantastic layout through the rolling desert scrub. We'd played the Marty Sanchez Links in town, but there's no comparison whatsoever. Every hole on the course is interesting and different, the conditions were very good, and the price to play was fair. Would definitely play again when back in the area.
