The course is in Rancho Santa Margarita and opened in 1990 as part of a real estate development. It was designed by Ted Robinson and plays to 6,918 yards from the championship tees with a course rating of 73.4, and a 136 slope. It's a first class golf course experience with service and conditions and facilities. The layout is interesting with a relatively flat front nine with more open and forgiving fairways, but well bunkered and some tree lined. There's a few forced carries and risk/reward heroic type holes, and it's a good tune up for the back. The back nine is a step above in quality and character, especially the par 3's and the par 4's which require more course management skills and ability than the front. There's some blind shots, false fronts, and good elevation change, all really test the game. The course was very well maintained, the greens and tees in good shape, the rough thick and penal. Overall, a good solid course, nice alternative to some of the higher priced daily fees in Orange County.
