Two courses here, the Gold and the Black, both designed by Greg Norman, and is where they've played the Merrill Lynch Shootout. Both courses were built out of forested wetlands in the Naples area, just west of I-75 and Imokalee Road in a real estate development. I believe the Gold course is the best course I've played in Naples, really interesting with a lot of character and different design elements like the sod-wall bunkers, coquina waste bunkers. and a great deal of risk reward holes. There's a lot of bunkering here, both greenside and around the landing zones in the form of traditional and waste areas, with the only detraction is the housing alongside the course. Tiburon is part of the Ritz Carlton here, so you would imagine the service and conditions were top notch. Not all that enamored with the Black course here, a little to penal, and somewhat tricked up for my game, but much more in the way of scenery.

Pleasure to play Tiburon in the summer without the crowds and at lower rates. Had a chance to play this yesterday and got to play both Black and Gold, thought Black was tougher, both were in excellent condition, top shelf service, lunch in between rounds in the clubhouse was excellent, would highly recommend.

Stayed at the Ritz Carlton and played its well known Tiburon Black Course. The course was designed by Greg Norman. Played from the tips: 7005 yards. The course has a 74.2/147 rating. Expensive: $200 a round and $100 for Twilight after 4PM. This course is a bull. Typical Norman. No roughs only fairway and jungle on the sides. Even if you hit to the edge of the fairway, there is a good chance the ball will end up in jail. A zillion waste bunkers that look like crushed shell and sandstone. A lot of the traps are thinned out with no sand under the surface. My take: this course is not worth the money. Nice views but not exceptionally interesting layout. Doesn't feel fair and doesn't look like anything more than target golf at its extreme. I believe a true golf course should have first and second cuts of rough to challenge the golfer, not bush and bramble off every fairway to penalize any shot not in the short grass.
