Thistle is located in a residential development in Calabash, just north of the State line near Sunset Beach. It's one of the better courses in the area with 27-holes of links design by Tim Cates. One of the cool features here is the 12 minute tee time intervals which helps the pace of play. The course has large, open fairways with larger rolling greens surrounded by hills covered in heather and wild flowers, and opened in 2000. Not a pure links course, the routing does have water and marshes, but had good, wide landing areas. Very enjoyable course, was in good condition.

Our golf group plays the Thistle every year. Of the courses we play in this area, it is the most consistently well maintained. The staff is friendly, and they schedule tee times 10 minutes apart, which keeps the pace of play manageable. If you are going to play several courses in the North Carolina/South Carolina border area of Myrtle Beach, you should make The Thistle one of them.

Another 27-holer featuring mounding and long, sweeping doglegs and a fair amount of carry and/or water on holes. It's a very solid track, but no signature hole to speak off. Conditions were solid, though the greens were slow. Worth a try if you haven't played it, but likely not a return visit for us. Staff was very friendly.
