The Wynn is the golf course associated with the Wynn and Encore, and is in the middle of the Strip at Desert Inn, between Las Vegas Blvd, and It's on the same property where the classic Desert Inn was until it was demolished in 2001. I suppose you could call the new course the old DI on steroids. Tom Fazio designed it, brought in 800,000 cubic yards of topsoil, 1200 trees, and created a very solid golf course, that will mature nicely into a great course. It's a good solid layout, mounded fairways, lots of bunkers and water features, including a waterfall, and plays to 7,000 yards from the tips, but no USGA ratings, but IMHO it's overrated and too expensive.

Everything is perfect. No pitch marks on the green, no broken tees on the boxes, no patches of dead grass, or weeds in the flower beds – just perfect, and the best conditioned course I’ve ever played, and that there’s a huge gap between first and second place. Probably the only area of criticism would be a pretty lame warm-up area. They have about 10 hitting bays where players hit into a net. Nice little short game area, and a combined putting/chipping green. It would have been nice to have an actual range, but given the course is right on the strip, certainly understand the space limitations. The course itself is quite challenging because there are only two tee boxes. The back box plays to about 7000 yards, while the front plays to a sporty 6500 which is where we played from. The turf is just fantastic. No bad lies are possible, and the dirt has just the right amount of give. The course is a par 70, with an unusual front/back of 34/36. I know the green fee is steep, but the memory of playing Wynn will be well worth the $300 price tag for summer rates.

Will always appreciate a Fazio design, and this is no exception. Quality layout, very challenging design. Was a little disappointed with the conditions, it should have been pristine for the amount of money they charge here, and the practice facility is chintzy to say the least. It's definitely overrated and overpriced, I enjoyed it like I do plenty of other courses in Vegas I've played over the years.
