The Rookery, which used to be the Golf Club at Marco, was originally designed by Joe Lee in 1991, and was re-designed in 2003 by Robert Cupp Jr. It's located a few miles south of downtown Naples off the Tamaimi Trail. The course is an Audubon Sanctuary and is routed through natural wetland and mitigation areas through an upscale housing development. The course is in immaculate shape with wide, forgiving fairways, but tough approach shots to good sized greens, and is 7180 yards, 143 slope from the back tees, On my last visit the greens were immaculate, quick, true rolling and an absolute joy to play. The course has a series of waterways, lakes, ponds and marshes throughout with plenty of wildlife. There's a number of forced carries to deal with, depends on the tee selection you make. One of the better courses in SW Florida.

On a long weekend we recently played both the Flamingo and Mustang courses at Lely and then the Rookery at Marco twice. It was not even close..... the Rookery was FAR AND AWAY the best course of the three. The course was immaculate and the staff was extremely friendly. As far as the Lely course go.....they weren't bad. They were in good, but not great condition. The layout was somewhat challenging and had a few brightspots but also had many forgetful, boring holes. You absolutely cannot go wrong with the Rookery.

Played both the Flamingo and Mustang courses at Lely and then the Rookery at Marco twice. It was not even close..... the Rookery was FAR AND AWAY the best course of the three. The course was immaculate and the staff was extremely friendly. I played at 2:30 the first time and they let me play for the 3pm rate of $65 which is a steal for the quality of course. That included a few bottled waters, range balls and all the other add-ins that you expect at a nice course. I played again today at 3pm and had time to get in 27 holes in under four hours. Watch out for the gators on this course. I spotted around 10 gators today; a few of the gators were quite large. As far as the Lely course go.....they weren't bad. They were in good, but not great condition. The layout was somewhat challenging and had a few brightspots but also had many forgetful, boring holes.
