Glade Springs is a four season resort south of Beckley, WV, with lodging, a spa, skiing, and three 18 hole championship golf courses The Woodhaven Course is the newest one here, it opened in Fall of 2009. Both courses are in beautiful settings, Stonehaven has great elevation change routed along the ridge-top without changing the existing lay of the land and rock outcroppings, just pretty much laid topsoil over it. It's routed around Chatham Lake and through tree lined fairways, playing to mid sized greens which were very fast, some tiered, undulating, and with grass collection areas greenside. The front nine warms you up for an even tougher back side. The entire back nine is full of great holes, big elevation change, heroic hole strategies, and just a beautiful setting. The Blue tees play from 6700 yards, and there's a number of forced carries, so play from the tees suggested for your level of play. The Cobb Course was designed by George Cobb, and has even more elevation change than Stonehaven and is definitely the more challenging of the two courses, well bunkered, a lot of water, and hilly and sloping fairways. It's 6900 yards from the back tees, 139 slope, par 71, a true parkland/mountain style of course built in 1974, a more classic and traditional layout than the newer Stonehaven. Definitely, a shotmaker's course, once you learn the layout. The Woodhaven Course, with dramatic views of the gorge overlooking Glade's Creek, and mountainous terrain, will prove an exciting complement to Glade Springs' other golf courses.

Played two of the courses here, and enjoyed them thoroughly, the third course, Woodhaven, hadn't opened up as of yet. Stayed at the Inn side of the resort, friends of ours stayed at the Executive Suites, and weren't all that happy with their accommodations. Ours were excellent, as was everything about the resort, setting, facilities, and especially the golf.

Excellent conditions, even though it was a bit wet. They just announced that the resort here was being purchased by Jim Justice, the same guy who purchased the Greenbrier last year, and that they hope to be able to offer golf at either resort, no matter which one you're staying at with shuttle service. having played both resorts and the courses at Greenbrier, it seems like a no brainer.
