The Pointe is a nice alternative to the high priced OBX courses, and is located off of Hwy.158 in Powells Point, 5 minutes North of the Wright Memorial Bridge. It's a 1995 Russell Breeden design that from the back tees is 6343 yards, 128 slope. Nice course and challenging, but fun layout in good shape. Just pure golf, no residential development, kind of out in the country and a nice break from the beach area's congestion. The course routing is parkland style with tree lined fairways, moderately bunkered with water in play on 15 holes. Nice variety of holes, well managed facility, and good pace of play.

A nice addition to its more challenging sister course, The Carolina Club, The Pointe offers a more forgiving setting. In comparison to its sister club, The Pointe has noticeably wider landing areas and you dont have to shape as many shots to get near the pin for a quick paced, but fair, chance at a birdie. While the greens here are quite a bit quicker, it doesnt require a lot of time to get used to the slick putting surface. If you're looking for a decent practice facility, then stop searching. The Pointe's driving range is pristine and long for those who want to bash away as long as they dare. A very nice practice putting green that shows you exactly what you are going to be up against lies just before the first teebox while an equally nice chipping facility is located beside the driving range. The pro, Cory Schneider, ranks, in my opinion, at the top of the list as far as teachers and players are concerned. I have yet to have a lesson with him that has not profitted me. Also make sure you visit the Keefers bar and grille before or after your round. It hosts a very pleasant atmoshere and some good eats.
