This Bruce Matthews design opened in 2001. Built on and around a local ski hill (Mount Brighton), the course has some dramatic elevation changes. At 6,687 yards (72.7/139 rating) one might view the course as short. However, there is plenty of trouble waiting for the errant shot so one better hit it straight. Three additional set of tees allow one to modify the degree of difficulty. The ski area does not intrude on the golf but playing along side ski lifts and snow making equipment sometimes adds a surreal touch to the experience. One needs to play the layout a few times to understand the effects of the elevation on shots and to know the proper targets on the doglegs. The par 3 9th (257 yards / 180 foot drop) is a lot of fun. Exit I 96 at Grand River Avenue (south toward Brighton) and then right on Challis Road to Bauer.
