The Habitat is a muni, owned and operated by the city. It's just south of the Valkaria Airport, 20 minutes south of Melbourne, between US1 and I-95, off Valkaria Road. The course is routed through lakes, wetlands, and natural areas, designed by Charlie Ankrom, and from the back tees can play to just over 6,800 yards with a 72.9 course rating and a 129 slope. Modest clubhouse, pro shop, snack bar and facilities, but reasonably priced greens fees. The course itself is challenging, with many elevated tees, and some tight fairways with unplayable rough, water on half the holes, and a lot of bunkering. Fairly well conditioned, but gets a lot of play and can be slow.
