The Grove is the former Hillcrest CC on the northwest side of Chicago in Long Grove off Old McHenry Road. Had been a private club for years, but is now open for public play, albeit at some fairly stout greens fees. There's five sets of tees from 5,000 to 7,000 yards where the slope is 136, the silver tees are plenty challenging at 6,431 yards, 71.6/131 course and slope ratings, designed by Robert Bruce Harris in the 1960's. The routing is parkland style with tree lined fairways requiring accuracy off the tee and on approach to the greens, a real shot maker's course. There's plenty of hazards, streams and lakes, sand, OB, and an island green. Very well conditioned course, upscale feel to the course and clubhouse, would highly recommend.
