The Dormie Club is a new Coore/Crenshaw design on the north side of Pinehurst Village, private, but open for public play while they build their membership base. It's expensive, a bit overrated, but we enjoyed the "minimalist" feel to the layout. Having played Coore/Crenshaw courses in the past, they tend to have a more natural feel to them with bunkering that seems old-style, much like what they've done to #2 at Pinehurst. The greens are good sized and ranging, but mostly flat, the fairways are bordered by sandy soil, pine straw, native grasses and fescues. The fairways run firm and fast, providing a links-type of playing experience for approach to the greens. It's a parkland type of design with tree lined fairways, but open enough off the tee to be comfortable, and has more elevation change than we have seen in the Pinehurst area. The clubhouse is rather unimpressive, but the staff bent over backwards to welcome us. It was worth the trip and the expense to play it, I highly recommend it to you if you appreciate classic golf course architecture.

I played DC two weeks ago and found it tremendous fun. I loved having options into the greens. On many holes I hit the bump and run when I was out of position and on others I could fly it to the hole when my tee ball was properly placed. A great test for the short game, very scenic and quiet setting, nice to get away from Pinehurst a bit
