The Crossings is on the east side of Durham on Wake Forest Highway. It's a development course, designed by Ron Garl, routed through a residential community, and is very challenging due to the amount of sand, water, and trees in play. Always well conditioned, nice clubhouse and facilities, but not a great course for the higher handicappers. The Mallard tees are 6,072 yards, 69.1/123 ratings, and you will struggle to shoot your handicap here. While it is tight, they have worked to widen the fairways, and soften the landing zones, and thin the tees out along the fairways, which has helped. The front nine has rolling hills with good change in elevation, while the back side is basically through wetlands with water in play on 7 holes. The favorite holes was the island green, the par 3-12th, surrounded by wetlands and bunkers, which created some additional wagering opportunities. Nice outdoor patio on the grill overlooking the 9th hole for a post-round lunch.
