Brier Patch is on the west side of Beckley, off the West Virginia Turnpike at exit 44, take Cook Road along the Turnpike to Wickham, west 1 mile to Tabor, then right. The course used to be know as Saddlebred, but has been completely redesigned. The course has a few drivable par 4s, and par 5s, from the tips it can play to just over 7,000 yards, but has four shorter sets of tees. It was designed by Jim Justice and plays to a 74.0 course rating and 140 slope from the back tees. The course is hilly and not walkable, has some quirky holes, but is definitely worth playing in you're in the Beckley area, or just passing through. Lots of water, lots of sand traps, conditions aren't the greatest, but the price is right. This a mountain course with some very beautiful views, good mix of holes, some fairways are narrow lined with trees, some are open and some have water hazards. It is a very tough, stunningly beautiful layout, fun and has many unique holes.
