Tough Palmer course design through the salt marshes on the Mississippi in Bay of St. Louis, just 30 minutes east of New Orleans. Played the course pre-Katrina when it was a Casino Magic casino, and believe it's been through a couple of casinos since. It's was overly penal then, with the routing cut through some dense tree stands, marshes, and water, not to mention Palmer's penchant for sand. Since Katrina cleared out some 3000 trees, the layout is a little friendlier, but still too tough for my game at a 20 handicap. It's 6,900 yards, par 72, 138 slope, and 135 course rating with a good deal of forced carries, narrow fairways, There's some fun to the course while you're loosing balls and counting strokes, a couple of drivable par 4's, and just overall a well conditioned course. There's a discount for staying at the hotel at the casino when playing here. Probably the toughest on the Gulf Coast.

This is a nice course. It is tough. We started on the 10th and right off the bat I was in 10 inch rough on the face of a fairway bunker and had to pitch out. It is set up nicely though. The greens have a lot of slope and are tiered with runoff areas. The rough is thick and uniform. A lot of holes require strategy. Be ready to pull an iron off the tee on some par 4's to avoid trouble and prepare to be tested.
