Three 18 hole championship courses are located here at the British PGA HQ and the site of four Ryder Cups. All of the courses were designed by Dave Thomas and Peter Alliss, and are part of this big conference center, spa resort setting, just 20 minutes northeast of Birmingham, England. The Brabazon is the 18 hole course to play, and is heads above the others, and the green fees are double. It's a fairly flat course routed through stands of mature trees, and plays to 6,400 yards from the regular tees, par 72. There's 78 bunkers, plenty of water in the form of streams, ponds, lagoons, and lakes which are the course's major defence on at least 15 holes. The greens were in pristine condition, good breaking putts, rather fast, and good sized. Woods and water constantly make this a tough course.

I played here just before the redesign work on the Brabazon and thought it was a good layout. Obviously your eyes are drawn to the 10th and the 18th, they are without doubt the best ones on the course. Some of the others are quite bland but still worth a knock if you can get a deal. Have been the Belfry every year with my group for years now. It’s a great place to go for a golf break. Although the deals are great value on a Sunday, make sure you go on a Friday or Saturday, the Bel air is a great laugh!
