The Australian is one of Australia's oldest clubs, is private, but is open to overseas visitors, either through your own club pro, or by contacting the general manager at the club. It's an old original Alister MacKenzie design from 1926, with redesign work by Jack Nicklaus in 1977. The course is a fair championship level course, and has some "American" style design features, long holes, well bunkered, lakes, ponds and trees in play. In our opinion, it wasn't the best course we played in Sidney, but it was a great experience. Conditions were excellent, we were meant to feel like members by the entire staff. It's certainly a top notch club and setting, a real classic, and one of the more prestigious clubs in Sydney. It's located between downtown Sydney and the airport right along Southern Cross Drive.
