Tatum Ridge is east of Sarasota off Fruitville Road, about a mile east of I-75. The course is pure golf, no houses lining the course, which is unusual in Florida. The layout is open for the most part with a scattering of trees, and has a good amount of water in play, either lakes or wetlands on most holes. It was designed by Ted McAnlis, and from the blue tees is 6745 yards, 129 slope and 72.2 slope. It's mostly flat with some mounding in the fairways, and is really a target style of course management with lay-ups to narrow fairways, approach shots that must land on the correct part of the greens, and heavily undulating greens that are typically in decent shape and require solid lag skills. You can blast away off the tee, but you'll generally find water or sand. The course is probably on the top ten list for the Sarasota area, and generally well maintained. There couldn't’ be a nicer group of people managing Tatum Ridge.

There's a sign at the 10th tee warning you to avoid the sandhill cranes nearby. There's a 5 foot mama nesting a couple of eggs just off the tee box, and she'll rise up and hiss, flap her wings if you get too close. Won't be long and they're be a couple little babies running around, and you'll want to avoid them as well!

A very fun pre-Thanksgiving round with friends and family. The course held up its end of the deal, but my golf game did not. I guess that's what you get for not playing since August. Overall, course is in solid shape for this late in the season, and the weather was ideal for a late-November day.
