Designed by William Newcomb, the course opened with an original 18 (North/South) in 1991 and then another 9 (West) was quickly added. Any combination will present a challenge: N/S - 7,077 Yards (74.4/138 rating), S/W - 7,141 yards (74.4/145 rating), W/N - 6,946 yards (72.8/136 rating). Three alternate sets of tees allow one to adjust the difficulty. The land is gently rolling with no significant elevation changes. Most of the course is relatively open with water hazards the primary penalty for wayward shots. Green complexes are surrounded by mounding and a moderate amount of bunkering. Once on the green, the tempo is quick on the moderately contoured putting surfaces.
A residential development accompanies the course but the housing rarely intrudes on the golfing experience. The signature hole is #6 on the West Course. The green is shaped like our mitten-like State and a replica "Mackinac Bridge" takes one over the water hazard. Some may consider it a bit over-the-top but I like it.
