Tallgrass is in the Middle Island area near Rocky Point Natural Resource Area. The course opened in 2000 and was designed by Gil Hanse as an open, links type layout of 6,600 yards from the back tees with a 127 slope. The fairways are wide open, but with mounding and undulation causing uneven lies along with 70+ bunkers along the landing areas and greenside. The fairways are bordered by tall native, fescue like grass, that's generally a stroke lost-if you can find your ball. The greens are fairly open at the front to encourage the bump n' run to keep it under the constant wind here. The course is enjoyable to play, and good change from the more conventional courses in the area.
