Sycamore was designed by Jim Colbert and Baxter Spann in 2000, and plays to 7,055 yards from the back tees, and a 150 slope, with 4 other sets of tees. It's located in Spring Hill, southwest of Overland Park and Kansas City.

The front nine is more of a links style course, while the back is more rolling hills, parkland type layout. It's demanding, a shotmaker's delight with a number of risk/reward opportunities.

One of the distinctive features of Sycamore Ridge is the contrast between the front and back nines. The front nine is more of a links style with rolling fairways, few trees and rough bordered by deep native grasses. The back nine has rolling wooded hills with some serious elevation changes. All golfers who played Sycamore Ridge end up preferring one nine to the other. On the front nine, the par 5 ninth stands out as a challenging hole. Off the tee there is a wide landing area before a narrow dogleg right with trees and deep rough in the bend. Anyone playing driver risks missing the narrow fairway beyond the dogleg. The green is deep but skinny and has a long and deep bunker on the right. The par 5 sixth is the number one handicap hole with a bifurcated fairway. The end of the first fairway is lined with bunkers so anyone going for the second fairway risks deep trouble. On the back nine I’ve always liked no. 10, a par 4 with a fairway that slopes down after about 150 yards, leaving a difficult downhill lie for a second shot. No. 16 is a long par 5, 600 yards from the black tees with two fairways. The first fairway slopes up from the tee boxes. After the end of the first fairway, there is a large waste area and a drop in elevation. The second fairway also slopes up to a green that is tucked to the right.

Sycamore Ridge is one of our favorite courses to play in the KC area. We played yesterday, and the course was in good shape, even with the dry and hot summer we've had. Always prefer the front nine here over the back, it's more of a links style with rolling fairways, few trees and rough bordered by deep native grasses, while the back side is more traditional parkland style. Rates are a little expensive, but for the course quality and facilities, it's in line with some of the better courses in town.

Can always count on a good round of golf here, nice conditions, and treated well in the golf shop and clubhouse. Pace of play yesterday was just OK at 4.5 hours, kind of what you've come to expect here.

Course was very nice. Very difficult also. You'll use every club in your bag.
