Sugarwood is 5 minutes south of Huntington on WV 152. Pure golf, nothing else in play, routed through a small valley over rolling hills and tree lined fairways. The course has been undergoing a long term re-design process over the years by Ed Allen, and has improved considerably over time. It's not the quality layout of Twin Silos, but it's close, and costs less to play. From the tips the course plays to just over 6,500 yards with a 71.8 course rating and a 129 slope, and is no pushover. There's a moderate amount of bunkering, some water, and tiered and sloped greens to get in the way of a good score. My only complaint is that it doesn't drain well after a lot of rain.
