Sugar Loaf Resort is about 45 minutes north of Traverse City in Cedar, on the south side of Little Traverse Lake. The course opened in the mid-1960's, designed by C.D. Wagstaff, and has four sets of tees from 5,100 yards to 6,813 from the tips. Our group of 14 handicappers always play from the Whites at 6,124 yards, 69.9/118 ratings, and find it to be an enjoyable but challenging round of golf. Compared to the upper end golf courses and resorts in northern Michigan, the Old Course here is a great price value, and always in better than average shape. It's basic, no clubhouse to speak of, and no bar, but you can BYOB. Fun layout, lots of elevation change, not easily walkable, and very scenic.
