Sudden Valley is on the east side of Bellingham on Lake Whatcom, off Lake Whatcom Blvd, about 3 miles east of I-5. The golf course was designed by Ted Robinson, and plays to 6,553 yards from the back tees, 71.5/130 ratings. with the front nine is relatively open and flat and borders the shores of Lake Whatcom. Fairway landing areas are relatively generous and the greens are large. However, the back nine follows a ridge uphill with narrow pine tree-fringed fairways and smaller greens that have more character. Overall, very challenging, especially off the tee, with water in play on 14 holes, and a moderate amount of bunkering. Course was well maintained, good lunch in the clubhouse.

Greens were very fast with a lot of contour, but in excellent shape. Traps were a little thin on sand but still playable. Fairways and rough were generally good but with a few brown spots because of the lack of rain. Cart girl was out even though it was an early Monday morning with few plyaers on the course. Clubhouse snack bar was small but adequate.
