Located northwest of Dublin on the coast near Sligo is this unsung links course of good style. Strandhill is a superb links course that hardly gets mentioned next to Rosses Point. It's an interesting course as the second nine was designed and the whole course is maintained by the members. In 1939, John McAlister from Dublin was engaged to design a new nine-hole course over the existing land and this was opened in May 1940. It is creative and entertaining, and now that new land has been purchased behind the 4th green, the weaker holes (9 to 11) can be replaced. It measures 6,032 yards, par 69, and is an exciting links course with great views of the Atlantic coastline, Knocknarea Mountain, Ballisodare Bay further enhance the beauty of this wonderful place. The sand dunes give the routing a good rolling and tumbling nature to the course through the fairways to around the greens. If you come as far as Rosses Point then, this should be in your plans.

Big dunes to play through, wonderful remote location, course was built or designed into the lay of the land. A bit on the quirky side, not a major championship links layout, but one, if you're nearby that well worth playing.
