We played Stonebriar on a stay at the Westin in Frisco for a business meeting. It's a Tom Fazio design, mounded fairways, routed around the wetlands to the west of the hotel in Frisco, The fairways, as a whole, are fairly forgiving off the tee box, and in good shape, with mounds which helped, mostly, kick the ball back into play. It's a resort style of layout, and somewhat forgiving, but there are some holes where you'd argue with that., with the deep fescue rough, and some of the trees lining the fairway catching errant shots. The bunkers are very strategic, visually appealing, sand was perfect, and very playable if you had to be there. The greens were very fast, and true. There are a couple of really good, really challenging shortish par four holes on this course. The first one hits you once you catch your breath after the easy downhill #1 hole. #2 is a dogleg right hole that's uphill on the tee shot and downhill back to the green. The fairway is well bunkered at the landing zones and close to the green, along with a creek, and a grove of trees, just a nice challenge and visually appealing. The most scenic hole on the course is #11, 379 yards from the white tees. A big pond to the right is about all you see off the tee, but the hole is fair as it curves to the right around the water. Big traps are at the corner and if don't hit it well enough, or if you bomb it straight and go through the fairway. More sand is located to the right of the green, but at least there is the option of a safe fail to the left of the green, void of either ocean or desert. A great course for players of all levels. It will challenge the good players, especially from the blues, but it's still playable for a more average player. It's well maintained all around, and the service from the Pro Shop in the hotel to the starter is what you'd expect from a high end resort.

It is a fun course and was in great shape when we played last week. The Greens were beautifully maintained and the surrounding landscaping in and around the fairways made it scenically pleasing, and although it does wind through a vacation village, the buildings do not impose on the course too much. There are a lot of bunkers sculpted into the rises and swales, but they are more aesthetic then penalizing unless the shot is way off aim. The mix between really challenging holes and fairly easy holes was good, but pay attention to yardage. Some well hit long drives ended up being penalized because of hidden danger off the tee. The staff was great and very attentive. Overall a great day of golf.
