Steamboat Springs Golf Club is a couple miles west of Steamboat on US 40. It's only a nine hole course, playing to 2,913, 66 course rating, 120 slope if you play it twice from the back tees. and routed along the Yampa River. It's the least expensive course in town, you can usually play for under $30 in the summer. Very basic and straight and back holes, some of the fairways have trees, other areas are more open. The greens are on the small side, there's just a few bunkers, and the Yampa River comes into play on a few of the holes. Not the most challenging or upscale experience, but a good place to get in a low cost round in a nice setting.

This is an interesting layout, but much too difficult for the average golfer. The layout here leaves you begging for your driver to be long and accurate. If so, reasonable iron lengths to the somewhat large green, but incredibly undulating and sloped greens, coupled with difficult pin placements can easily lead to a long day of frustration. Whoever set the pins on this play date must have had a fight with his/her significant other the night before. It is a very good test for the better golfer. If you are a 15-20 handicap or lower, you can get yourself around the course as long as you can drive the ball decently. Anything more, and you will be punished by this layout.
