Design/Layout
Southampton Country Club is 20 minutes northwest of Springfield, off I-91 at the Cherry Street exit, west to Southampton Road, then north to the golf course. Parkland style of layout, routed through a forest over rolling hills, the course was designed by John Strychary in the 1950's, and from the tips is 6,490 yards, 71.1/119. Very well maintained course, interesting layout, scenic, and fair greens fees. Good elevation changes to the holes, not easily walkable, lots of uphill/sidehill lies make the course a challenge, as did the small, raised greens, tough to hold, and slick putting surfaces.
