Sounds of Freedom lives up to its name quite often, when we played the F-16's were in full force, not all that peaceful of round, but you definitely felt the force of the US Navy! The course is now open to the public, nice layout carved through the woods along the Neuse River with rolling small hills, and narrow in places. We played from the 6,250 yard white tees, 69.7/117 course and slope. It is a George Cobb original design with renovation work done by Clyde Johnson that apparently has really improved the course with rebuilt greens, new grassing, bunker reworking, and draining for the fairways. The bunkers are extremely consistent and well maintained, the greens were well conditioned, fairways and rough as well. Reasonably priced greens fees, our only critique was the pace of play could have been managed better.
