Smokey Mountain Country Club is 1 1/2 hours west of Asheville, off the Smokey Mountain Expressway, exit 72, then south a couple of miles. It's a classic mountain golf course experience with the course designed by Thomas Walker, playing to around 6,000 yards, par 70. Great amount of elevation change as the course is routed from the valley floor up onto the mountainside, and is definitely not walkable. Great views out over the Smokeys and the valley from almost every vantage point. Although most of the holes are fairly routine, the sloping and hilly fairways do through the off line shots further off the fairways. The greens were good sized and receptive, some guarded by bunkers, tree lined fairways, some tight, but mostly a fair course. Nice experience, rate was reasonable, but conditions were suffering a bit, patches here and there, but it was late summer. Would be a nice place to park for a couple of days to play here and Sequoyah at Harrah's.

Very stout mountain style of course with significant elevation changes, small and elevated greens, and tight fairways. Fun course to play, not all that difficult if you can judge the best line of flight with the slope to it. Nice restaurant in the clubhouse, overall, well dones, and will return.
