Silver Creek Plantation is off I-40 at at exit 96/Kathy Road on the south side of the Interstate, just a few miles west of Morganton, 30 minutes west of Hickory. The course is routed through an upscale residential community over rolling hills with great views of the mountains in a very scenic setting. It was designed by Tom Jackson in the mid-1990's, and is an interesting, challenging, but forgiving layout, playing to 6,700 yards from the back tees with a 73.5 course rating and a 130 slope, but with three shorter sets of tees. Excellent conditioning, upscale clubhouse and facilities with a nice grill for a post round meal or pint. It's a private club, but open for public play, we were treated very well here by both the members and the staff. Easy off/on from the Interstate if you're just traveling through. Fun layout, lots of variety, good sized greens, and water and sand throughout.
