Shining Mountain is 30 minutes west of Colorado Springs in the shadow of Pikes Peak in the Pike National Forest on the north side of Woodland Park. The course originally opened in the mid-1990's, but has has its issues over the years, the new ownership seems to have it back and has built a clubhouse. It's an interesting and varied design in a stunning setting. John Harbottle designed the course, and it's not all that long when you consider the altitude at 6464 yards, par 70, a course rating of 71.6 and a 136 slope. Tough course with narrow fairways, sloping and contoured greens, and well bunkered. Conditions have been spotty, rates are pricey on weekends, not for the higher handicapper golfer.
