Shaftesbury is north of the Carolina Bays Parkways and Myrtle Beach in the Conway area off the Veterans Highway at Rt 905. It's a Clyde Johnson design of 6900 yards, 135 slope, and 74 course rating, mostly golf, looks like they might be building homes here some day. Nice mix of holes, more open and links like and some tree lined, a lot of sand, and good sized, elevated greens. Challenging layout with good sized landing areas off the tees, but some doglegs that require good accuracy with the driver, long par 5's, maybe one if reachable, and a nice collection of par 3's. On the Waccamaw River with a lot of sand, mostly flat, and overall, very well conditioned, and worth the drive out.

One of our guys said he'd heard we have to play Shaftesbury on our trip to Myrtle. Why make the 25 minute drive out to Conway when there were plenty of courses where we were staying. Wrong, it's worth the drive, immaculate conditioning, fair rates, a super clubhouse and service, and a challenging but fair golf course. Fair enough off the tee even for the most errant shot, but your game will be judged by your short game and to avoid the hazards durrounding the greens. A must play to be sure.
