Image of Seven Canyons Sedona AZ

Seven Canyons has been a private golf club and real estate development, that is until the recession hit, and that put the brakes on the development. The course is now open to public play, and is really a spectacular setting for a golf course, as is the rest of Sedona. It's located about 15 miles northwest of Sedona in the middle off the red sandstone desert and cliffs. It's a Tom Weiskpoh design of 6,400 yards. The development declared bankruptcy earlier this year, and a couple of the fairways died out due to some irrigation issues, but when I played last week, the course was back in great shape. Beautiful setting for the routing, at the base of the redrock mountains in the Coconino National Forest in one of the most secluded settings you'll find for golf in Arizona. The holes are isolated, unique, and challenging from the back tees, or from any tee with narrow fairways, bordered by the natural desert scrub, and swallows a few balls. Weiskoph always designs a quality course from my experience, and from my perspective, didn't disappoint here. It's hard to imagine what's going to happen out here in terms of the development, the economy here doesn't seem to be turning around at all, so play it if you're in the area, you won't be disappointed.

BEST golf course and setting, just played golf there.. What an awsome experience. The COURSE is the most beautiful I have ever been on or ever played! FABULOUS!! By far the best we played in Arizona. We ate at the restaurant and it was just a wonderful experience. The views were breath-taking and the food was just as good. If you are a golfer or not and you travel to Sedona, this is a spot you must visit for everyone even if you are not a Golfer.. THX FOR OUR GREAT EXPERINCE!! WE WILL BE BACK TO SEVEN CANYONS WITH EVERY TRIP TO SEDONA!!

Overall, definitely worth the $55 afternoon rate, especially after hearing about some poor conditions here, I was very happy all-around with the facility. There was a lot of variety in the holes, a good mix of long, tough par 4s and short, scoreable par 4s. Several good risk-reward holes, too. I liked all the par 3s. Another good mix of long and short. It's a course that is tough to play blind the first time through, a yardage book would be helpful. The views were outstanding, and worth playing the course, just for 4 hours of the scenery, especially late afternoon. The fairways are good, but all have some patchy spots. It didn't affect my play at all, but it's not the carpet-green fairways you'd expect. Greens were a little grainy but rolling well. They were firm, but more in a challenging way than a bad conditioned rock-hard way. Bunkers were very nice except for a random one that was eroded. The pro shop is a trailer at the moment, not sure when it will ever be replaced, the development has stalled big time, but they do have a small full-service restaurant at the range with incredible patio views.

Played Seven Canyons yesterday. Overall, definitely worth the $55 afternoon rate. As everyone has said the views are spectacular, but thought the course had a few too many boring holes. There's a good mix of long, tough par 4s and short, scoreable par 4s. Several good risk-reward holes, too. I liked all the par 3s. Another good mix of long and short. It's a course that is tough to play blind the first time through. I would have hit some different clubs off some tees if I knew the lines better. The fairways are in good, but all have some patchy spots. It didn't affect my play at all, but it's not the carpet-green fairways you'd expect out of a place like that. The greens were a little grainy but rolling well. They were firm, but more in a challenging way than a bad conditioned rock-hard way. OVerall excellent experience for the money, will be back again. Try to play in the lalte afternoon for the best colors to the scenery

Fairly long course that plays short. The layout is fantastic and the views are incredible --- some of the holes are so picturesque that you can't help but pause & admire them. The course is in great shape especially considering that we're late in the season and have dealt with hot, humid weather all summer. The greens are incredibly difficult --- very large and quick, like putting on ice. The only disappointment was that the Cart girl called it quits around 6:00, but the food & service at the turn was top notch. Absolutely cannot wait to return again ASAP!
