Sequoyah National is part of the Harrah's Cherokee Casino & Hotel in Cherokee, about an hour west of Asheville. They just opened this course in August 2009, it was designed by Robert Trent Jones II and Notah Be**** III. The course is in a beautiful setting in the middle of the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. The course plays to 6,700 yards from the back tees, and is a pure mountain style of golf course with major elevation change, tree lined fairways, and extremely well bunkered. The course is a major challenge, and expensive for this area, although you don't have to be a guest of the casino to play the course. Beautiful setting with the Clingmans Dome peak, the Snowbird Mountain range through the Thomas Valley..

Sequoyah is a very challenging course that is rough around the edges. A lot of elevation changes that makes it a lot of fun. Holes 8 thru 13 are some of the best I have play in one stretch of holes.

This may be a course to skip this year. They've having problems with erosion, which new courses always do until the drain lines are determined. One green was closed, overall wet and soupy, and they trying to fix with re-sodding. Most the greens were ok, the price was definitely right, but I think I'll wait till later in the summer when it's been dry a while. Love the layout, it's not resort style golf, but very challenging course with a lot of elevation change.

Great golf course, and fantastic setting, the course just opened in the lalst year and needs to grow in a bit, but it's started out well this Spring. A must play if you're anywhere nearby, lots of variety in the holes, and every hole backdrop a potential photo!

This will be a very good golf course once it growns in, just opened this summer and while it's a little rough around the edges, it's a good and strong layout. The course was designed by RTJ Jr, the guy they call to toughen up US Open courses. This one's fair off the teen, but a lot of sand and challenge to the holes with the elevation change. Beautiful views though, worth the hour drive out from Asheville.
