Seascale Golf Club is on the west coast of Cumbria with nice views out over to the Isle of Man and Scotland to the west, and the mountains of the Lake District to the east. It's an older links layout, with the original nine holes designed by Willie Campbell in 1893, and the second nine added by George Lowe. It's a very very tough test of links golf which, if played in any kind of wind, is a monster. As with most of the great links courses, the golfer must realise that the yardage chart can go straight out the window when you're playing in a strong wind, and on hard and fast running fairways. We flew into Manchester and played some links golf around Southport, then drove up to Seascale, and on to Silloth on Solway, an hour north along the coast for a beautiful 36 hole day. The only possible negative about Seascale was that it was overshadowed a bit by the Sellafield Power Station, otherwise a fine experience. The course has some interesting, maybe a little quirky holes, a bit of change in elevation, just to keep it interesting. Nice mix of holes, the small greens, and scattered pits of bunkers make this one challenging traditional links course!

I have played this course regularly for two years and every game is different. The real beauty of this course is its condition - the greens are always immaculate as are the tees. The fairways are also always in good condition. For those who have not yet played this course, be prepared for a real exciting challenge.
