Santa Anita is a busy public course up in Arcadia, off the I-210 south on Sanita Anita Blvd. It's one of the better munis in Southern California, but, it's always busy, and slow. Rates are low though, and it's always in good shape, excellent fairways and greens. The course is old, from the 1930s, designed by James Harrison, and from the tips plays to 6,368 yards, par 70 with a course rating of 70.4, and a 122 slope. The course itself plays harder than the yardage and slope would indicate, it's a a park-like setting with wide tree-lined fairways with old-growth oaks as well as pine trees. Bunkers are well placed and can get you in trouble, particularly the green-side bunkers. The staff is very accommodating, food service is better than you'd expect at a muni with a nice bar area for a post round brew. Tight course with the trees always in play, and tough to shoot your handicap here, but enjoyable for a low cost round of golf. Kind of an oasis, surrounded by the usual LA development.

Greens had just been tended to, so they were very sandy. However, the ball rolled true. Nothing you can do about it, since courses must be taken care of.
