The course is 40 miles east of Tucson, just off I-10, and opened in 2003. It's a links style layout devoid of trees, and in the truest sense of a links the course goes out to its farthest reaches for 9 holes, then back to the clubhouse at 18. It's the only golf course on the San Pedro River, which flows south to north and borders 4 holes. The landing areas are wide, but there's a number of fairway bunker, especially on the dog legs. The greens are on the large side, and minimally protected by bunkers. The course was designed by Mark Rathert and can play to 7313 yards, but is at an altitude of 4400 feet above sea level. There's some elevation change here, especially the 15th a par three of 200 yards with a tee box 75 feet above the green's surface. A great find and in decent condition, and beats Tucson's high priced courses.

There's water guarding holes Number 9 and Number 18 and makes them a little more challenging. Several fairways have doglegs that require good placement off the tee to the well-protected greens. The greenside bunkering is modest and fairway bunkers are sparse, contouring and grass swales are enough to protect a number of greens. On several holes, tighter landing areas substitute perfectly for the lack of fairway bunkers. The 421-yard, par-4 Number 3 hole features a split fairway with risk/reward options to consider down either side. One of the most daunting thrills crops up at the sweeping 567-yard, par-5 Number 5. Playing along the river, it turns sharply left before the green perched 20 feet above with trouble left, right, and behind. Number 18 is a 457-yard par 4 split by a small stream separating lakes left and right. Placement off the tee is critical to thread the second shot by the trouble, or risk the long approach.
