Salishan is on the Pacific, a couple hours southwest of Portland, and is a challenging and scenic course redesigned by Peter Jacobson. It's 6470 yards from the back tees, par 71, and 134 slope, and the front side is more parkland style with tree lined and rolling fairways, while the back is open and links style through the meadows, along Siletz Bay and near the ocean. Nice challenge, a good variety of holes, and some great views of the Pacific.

We booked a 3 day stay at Salishan Resort in Gleneden Beach. The marketing hype talked about this outstanding Scottish links course by the sea. Having grown up on the CA Coast I had a very good idea what constitutes a great seaside course and this was not it. The front nine is built into a hillside with poor drainage and constant up and down the hill to play. The back nine is for the most part sandwiched in between houses along the beach and another hill on the property. Not exactly a Scottish links or even close!! I can say the accommodations were above average and comfortable. I do know they don’t use this type of hype any longer and the course has been redesigned by Peter J. Still not a track I am in the least interested in at all. Here in Oregon it is all about Bandon Dunes, baby!!
